Our New Baby

Well, the racist idiots at the adoption agency finally came through for us. After two matches devestatingly fell through, we told them not to call us until the parental rights were terminated when we were matched again. We got the call Wednesday morning and brought Vienna home Thursday afternoon. The whole family immediately fell in love with her and she has made all the waiting and frustration worth while.

In another display of idiocy and unadmitted racism, they left the picture agreement for the first match that fell through in our file and the papers were in the stack they had us look over when we signed the papers for Vienna. Thanks for bringing those memories back! Another of the papers had a write-up by the agency about the birth-mother's other kids in which their hobbies and interests were listed. Her daughter's section said that she liked basketball. Also included was the paper that the birth-mother actually wrote out, listed under her daughter's interests and hobbies was baseball, not basketball. Apparently the Dutch felt like the birth-mother forgot that her daughter was black and therefor must like basketball not baseball so they corrected that for her.

Oh, well. We only have to deal with our worker who has been great for a few months until they let us back into the pool so that we can complete our family.

Perhaps it is time

Perhaps it is time to start this again.

I feel dirty.

Sometimes we have to accept that people do things that we don't agree with in order to accomplish a greater good. Is it really acceptable for an adoption agency to charge higher fees for Caucasian infants than bi-racial infants and more for bi-racial infants than black infants? Is it really acceptable for an adoption agency to refuse to place children with homosexual couples and have everyone sign a statement that they accept the policy and afirm that they are in compliance with it? Apparently it is, but I still feel dirty.
